In 2017, I took a 10 day solo trip to Newfoundland. I always prefer to travel alone but never could explain why until I met another solo woman traveler on a plane from Toronto to Syracuse. We talked about how people ask us in shocked voices, “Aren’t you afraid?”. No, we are not! Being a wanderer, an explorer is not about gender. My new friend and I realized that women traveling alone is still a new thing but we both have confidence that more and more will be doing this. I know this because I’ve witnessed the brave march forward of women throughout my whole life. Traveling alone allows a person to be in the present moment, to study and observe, and to talk to wonderful people along the way. It’s this woman’s passionate love affair with the world.
